New Irish face for Harry Potter series

Brendan Gleeson’s son adds more Irish flavor to ‘Harry Potter’

There's a new Irish face for the Harry Potter film series.

Domnhall Gleeson, the son of Ireland's much-loved Brendan Gleeson, will star in the latest installment, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I.”

Gleeson Jnr joins his own father and Termonfeckin star Evanna Lynch as the third Irish person to join the Hogwarts phenomenon.

The J.K. Rowling bestselling book-turned-film, the seventh in the series, is currently being shot in Britain, while its prequel, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” is set to be released around the globe on July 17.

While Papa Gleeson played Hogwarts professor Mad-Eye Moody, and Lynch plays young witch Luna Lovegood, a.k.a. “Loony Lovegood,” Domnhall Gleeson will portray Ron Weasley’s oldest brother (and Fleur Delacour’s fiancee), Bill Weasley. 

The elder Weasley attended Hogwarts before his younger brother’s time, and is described as laid back, but brave.

Domnhall Gleeson is just one of the latest cast members to join the Harry Potter epic film series. He is joined in the first part of “Deathly Hallows,” Rowling’s final Potter novel, by British actor Rhys Ifans, who will play Luna Lovegood’s father, Xenophilius.

Gleeson, who was born in Dublin in 1983, is a film and stage veteran, appearing in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Martin McDonagh's "The Lieutenant of Inishmore" in New York and alongside his father in the 2006 Irish movie, "Studs," for which he was nominated for an Irish Film and Television Award (IFTA) for Breakthrough Talent.
