Perhaps a minor issue, however Burt Reynolds was not in this film. Suspect you refer to Jon Voight.

I first heard of the horrible scene from a feminist, who worked in a Community College Library. This was 1972, the very year the movie came out. Mrs. S. said that any man who dismisses heterosexual rape as trivial should see that scene, from Deliverance. She wasn't saying that I was non challent about rape, rather, she was severly criticizing those men who held that attitude. I didn't see Deliverance until about a decade later, and was sickened by that scene; it was so frightening! Burt Reynolds was a true hero, with his bow & arrow! True, no man should trivialize any form of rape. I do feel, though, that a homosexual/lesbian rape of a heterosexual man/woman would be more traumatic than a heterosexual offense. ALL forms of rape should be punished to the fullest extent of the law!
