U2 frontman Bono, Olivia Wilde and Richard Branson have spoken out in support of Matt Damon’s “toilet strike,” which seeks to raise awareness of impoverished communities around the world without access to clean water and sanitation.

In a video expressing their support for the “toilet strike,” the stars say, “We won’t go to the bathroom until everyone in the world has access to clean water and sanitation.”

A couple of the stars joked about how they became involved in the unconventional strike. E online reports Bono joked, “I remember when Matt first brought up the idea, it was at a meeting of the Illuminati.” Wilde joined in, “I only got in because I’m an andriod from the future.”

Speaking seriously, Wilde said, “I want to support creative organizations that truly impact the lives of those in need, particularly those living in extreme poverty.” She added, “Water.org makes a real difference around the wolrd, and in Haiti, a country that I deeply care about,” according to CBS.

780 million people, which is one in nine, do not have access to clean water, as Bono points out in the video. 2.5 billion people lack safe water and sanitation facilities.

The “toilet strike” is headed by advocacy group Water.org, which was co- founded by Damon with Gary White. Water.org seeks to find solutions to the water crisis so all people can have access to clean water and sanitation and has helped more than one million people in Africa, South Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Damon started the “toilet strike” in February and Jessica Biel and Jason Bateman joined in March.

Bono closes, “Join the millions of famous people who’ve already joined my strike and remember, if you don’t use the toilet, you’re a celebrity.”
