Pierce Brosnan beats Robert Pattinson in a battle of the heartthrobs
An RPatz-Irish 007 showdown
“‘Twilight’ is a metaphor for the virtues of chastity, but it's had the opposite effect. I get letters that say "I'm going to kill myself if you don't watch ‘High School Musical 2’ with me.”
“I'm just a big, hard tool.”
Most quotes from Brosnan, on the other hand, are rather sincere, ranging from comments on his acting like: “I think that all the films I've ever made are personal, even James Bond, because it's so much of myself, so much of who I am as a man and as an actor. You have to invest yourself in every character that you portray.”
To comments on his upbringing, such as: “I've always been a bit of a loner. I've always felt like an outsider, and because I didn't have a mother or father figure, I brought myself up. I made my own rules, and from the pain of not having a mother there came the great strength of being able to deal with things on a one-to-one basis throughout my life.”
Obviously Pierce wins in the maturity contest, but as far as sense of humor goes…
WINNER: Pattinson
Values
Brosnan is an advocate for same-sex marriage, gay adoption, gun control and protecting the environment. He’s an ambassador for UNICEF Ireland and has been active in Greenpeace.
When his wife passed away from cancer in 1991, Brosnan adopted her children: “Cassie has made me the man I am, the actor I am, the father I am. She's forever embedded in every fiber of my being.”
He’s now married to Keely Shaye Smith, who recently came under fire for her weight, but Brosnan came to her defense, stating: “I love my wife’s curves!”
Brosnan and Smith recently visited the White House to discuss the worldwide preservation of whales, and have donated thousands of dollars to various environmental causes.
Pattinson may be a stand-up guy who admirable values, but he has yet to show much for it. To give him credit, he did pucker up for charity, offering a kiss at an auction benefiting the American Foundation for AIDS Research at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. But that about sums it up.
Perhaps the young RPatz can tap into his charitable side by learning from his older, wiser “Remember Me” co-star.
WINNER: Brosnan
OVERALL WINNER: PIERCE BROSNAN
So Irish actor Pierce Brosnan comes out the winner with 4-2.
With a little more acting training and perhaps a hair wash, Pattinson just might be able to take the title from his Irish co-star in years to come.
