U2 kicked off their new 360 Tour in Barcelona last night from a spaceship. Well, it's not really a spaceship but it sure looks like one!

Fellow Irishmen Snow Patrol opened the concert at Barcelona's Nou Camp but the 90,000 fans reserved their loudest screaming for the now legendary rockers.

The band walked on to the stage at 10 p.m. to the sounds of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.”

It was a fitting choice for an intro, being that the band’s stage, The Claw, resembles a spaceship on legs.

The contraption, which takes an army of crew members to assemble each night, features a giant 360 degree screen, a light show and flowing silk screens.

Bono said it was designed to make the audience feel like the fifth member of the band.

He welcomed Barcelona fans to “our space station,” saying “it looks like it was designed by Gaudi, but then this is Barcelona – the capital of surrealism.”

They even dialled up the international space station to check in with the astronauts orbiting the earth and asked them if they had seen any UFOs on their travels!

U2 rocked the house with hits from their new album, including “Get On Your Boots” and “No Line On The Horizon.”

They also threw in classics such as “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “Unforgettable Fire” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” when Bono draped himself in the Irish flag.

And, with a nod to the recent death of Michael Jackson, Bono also sang snatches from “Man In The Mirror” and “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.”

Meanwhile, the U2 360 Tour is headed to Dublin’s Croke Park on July 24, 25 and 27.

American U2 fans will have to wait to see their favorite Irish band until September 12, when U2 begins the U.S. leg of their tour at Chicago’s Soldier Field.
