The Irish Film Board have confirmed that "'Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia", the fourth installment in the franchise, will film in Ireland this summer. The movie starring Gerard Depardieu and Edouard Baer is estimated to have a budget of over $72 million.
Edouard Baer and Gérard Depardieu will play the roles of 'Astérix and Obélix. Fabrice Luchini will take on the role of Julius Caesar and Catherine Deneuve will play the Queen of England.
Co-written by Gregoire Vigneron the movie is an adaptation of Rene Goscinny and Albert Uderzo's original 1966 comic book "Asterix in Britain".
Ireland’s Octagon Films with Irish producer James Flynn leading the film’s Irish arm of the production. Flynn told IFTN "apart from investment in television drama which contributes to Ireland being a market leader in Europe for high-end U.S network drama, we must also remember that the 481 incentive remains one of the most attractive in world for feature films. In this regard, we are delighted to that Asterix will shoot part of its production here in August and September."
The movie will be shot in County Wicklow’s Brittas Bay, Luggala and Childers Wood (Annamoe) and Louth’s Listoke. Scouts are also looking at the west coast of Ireland. The 3D movie will also be shoot in Malta, Hungary and other locations around Europe.
