Mega band sells out 164,000 tickets to Dublin show in 90 minutes

The largest stadium in Ireland – and the fourth largest stadium in Europe – isn’t big enough to hold Irish U2 fans.

All 164,000 tickets for the band’s two shows at Croke Park in Dublin sold out in 90 minutes on Friday.

With sell-out shows on July 24 and 25, it's almost certain that U2 will add a third date to their Irish gigs.
 
It’s a good thing U2 is going big. Tickets for the tour, which kicks off  June 30 in Barcelona, have sold out almost instantly in Europe.
 
In Sweden. the band added a second show within 30 minutes of the first gig selling out for a total of 112,000 seats.
 
Fans in Amsterdam were just as anxious to get hold of the coveted U2 360 tickets: 60,000 tickets were sold in the first 15 minutes.
 
Welsh U2 diehards bought 65,000+ concert tickets in just 90 minutes.
 
But the band’s home fans are still the greatest with a whopping 164,000 tickets sold in 90 minutes.
 
The band had anticipated a mega demand in Dublin and had added a second show in advance.
 
But now they are looking to add a third night in response to the fans.
 
The band's first American date is on September 12 at Chicago’s Soldier Field and fans here are bound to match the demand in Europe.
 
The U2 360 Tour will feature the band playing in the round (hence the “360” in the tour’s title), with wraparound screens so concert goers can have the ultimate view.
 
U2 are taking this concept to the nth degree as they are only playing in stadium sized outdoor venues.
 
The 360 Tour follows up the release of U2’s 12th album, “No Line On The Horizon,” which debuted at #1 on the charts in 31 countries.
