Irish people, generally, like to be called Irish, especially the descendants of The Wild Geese. Is there a problem?

Why do people of Irish heritage always have to include "Irish" in everything they do? You do not hear of "Bulgarian" Boris Salcsu, or "Armenian" Anzar Tatchorian, "Spanish Sergio Nunez, or "Greek" Kostas Makris. Thankfully most of these names are associated with pugilists. If i were awaiting surgery, it would be somewhat disconcerting to hear the lead surgeon being called Dr "Irish" Danny Donovan
