If you need a reminder of how magical the winter can be in Ireland, look no further than these images by Irish photographer Michael Dillon.

Irish photographer Michael Dillon’s photo of the Christmas market in Galway City's Eyre Square in 2014 was a widely-shared favorite, capturing the city in all its festive glory.

A popular wedding photographer, Dillon is also passionate about Ireland’s landscapes. Drawing inspiration from his home county of Galway and its wild Atlantic coastline, Dillon creates images he calls “escapes.”

“That’s essentially what I do when I’m making them, and I also hope that the viewer might escape into them as well,” he told IrishCentral.

“I was always a visual person, always looking, observing, etc. This translated into me becoming a photographer in my early twenties.”

“I’m more well known for my wedding photography work but the escapes are also another passion of mine,” he said.

While many photographers focus on Ireland’s verdant green fields and sandy beaches, Dillon has a particular talent for conveying how different but beautiful Ireland can be in the winter months.

“The light can be very dramatic in the winter time here, but it comes and goes really fast so you do have to plan out some time,” he explained.

“But other times it can also be a case of just being in the right place at the right time."
