We are halfway through the sixth season of Game of Thrones, meaning Tourism Ireland have now unveiled five out of ten of their “Door of Thrones,” marking an epic journey through the hit HBO show’s Northern Ireland filming locations.

The fifth door was revealed this week in Frank Owens Bar in Limavady. Co. Derry, with several striking designs immortalizing the Night’s King. The bar is located near the filming location Downhill Strand, known in the show as Dragonstone.

The “Door of Thrones” tour was developed by Tourism Ireland this year to coincide with the sixth season of Game of Thrones®, following the disaster that struck the show’s most famous Northern Ireland location, The Dark Hedges. At the beginning of 2016, the well-known line of trees bordering the Bregagh Road in Co. Antrim were struck by the force of Storm Gertrude and two of the trees were felled.

Saving the two fallen trees, Tourism Ireland used the wood to make a series of ten beautifully carved doors, each one telling the story of the latest episode in season six. After each episode is aired, a new door will be revealed in restaurants, pubs and other venues near Game of Thrones filming locations across Northern Ireland.

Once all the the doors are revealed, the “Door of Thrones” tour will showcase Northern Ireland to millions of the show’s fans worldwide, inviting them to visit the sets where their favorite characters filmed their scenes. The forests, mountains and landscapes of Northern Ireland provide the backdrop to many memorable moments throughout the last five and a half seasons, making it easy to follow in the footsteps of the Night's Watch, or families of the North.

The first door (from episode one) is hanging in The Cuan guest inn in Strangford – near the filming locations of Castle Ward and Audley’s Castle. The second door is hanging in Fiddler's Green in Portaferry, near Quintin Bay. The third door, in the Percy French restaurant in Newcastle, is near Tollymore Forest Park; and the fourth door is in Blakes of the Hollow in Enniskillen, near Pollagollum Cave.

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with HBO in 2016, to highlight Northern Ireland – through the exciting events of Game of Thrones – on the global stage. TV and film are recognised as strong influencers on travellers everywhere and the stellar popularity of Game of Thrones is a fantastic opportunity for us to promote Northern Ireland to a huge audience of potential visitors,” said Tourism Ireland CEO, Niall Gibbons.

“Our latest campaign is a fun and innovative way to bring the destination to the attention of Game of Thrones fans everywhere – they will see our ads, spiking their curiosity about the landscapes and locations featured in the series and inspiring them to come and explore them for themselves.”
