A new video of the Aran Islands, off Galway, showcases the unique essence and energy of Inis Mór, Inis Meáin and Inis Oírr perfectly. Aran Island Ferries captured the vibrant beauty of the islands in a stunning new video, presenting the picturesque islands as you’ve never seen them before.

Caroline Gorham, Marketing Manager at Aran Island Ferries, said “Aran Island Ferries have been sailing to the islands for over 33 years so we know that the islands are a special place to visit.”

Taking a fresh, hands-on approach to the islands was key to producing the video according to John Conway, Managing Director of the production company Búlabosca.

“We spent a fantastic few days on the islands, and wanted to show what we saw – a young, vibrant Ireland with strong, local communities.”

He added, “Aran Island Ferries and the islanders were very generous with their time and support, and really got involved with the filming”.

Inis Mór, the biggest of the three Aran Islands, is home to over 50 historical attractions including Dún Aonghasa and Arkin Castle, and is a geologist’s heaven with a multitude of fascinating geological features. The main village on the island is the picturesque Kilronan, which has a wide selection of restaurants, traditional Irish Bars and accommodation.

Inis Meáin is the most traditional of the three Islands, and was a retreat for Irish playwright, John Millington Synge. In addition to a trip to Synge’s Cottage, visitors can enjoy sandy beaches and breath-taking scenery at a leisurely pace.

At just three square km in size, Inis Oírr is the smallest of the Aran Islands and is a walker’s paradise. Despite its size, the island has several interesting historical attractions, including the much photographed wreck of former cargo ship ‘Plassy’, which ran onto rocks on 8th March 1960, and has been marooned on the Eastern tip of the island ever since.

This short clip was produced by Galway film company, Búlabosca, who have previously been involved with other clips like “This is Galway.”
