Liam Neeson is taking on the role of an enormous tree monster in the upcoming fantasy film, A Monster Calls.

The movie tells the story of a boy (played by Lewis MacDougall) who seeks the help of a tree monster, who is thousands of years old, to cope with his mother’s terminal illness. Neeson lends his incredible vocal talents to the monster.

The fantasy fairy tale movie is directed by J.A. Bayona (The Impossible, The Orphanage) and produced by Belen Atienza (Pan’s Labyrinth).

The film is based on a children’s novel written by Patrick Ness, who has also written the screenplay. The book, which was published in 2011, is from an idea by Siobhan Dowd, a British-born Irish writer who died from breast cancer at the age of 47 before she could write the story.

Felicity Jones and Sigourney Weaver also star in the film.

The film is set to be released later this year, on October 14.
