Tim Burton has begun official negotiations with Warner Brothers about making "Beetlejuice 2." Michael Keaton, who starred in the title role of the original, is also in talks with Burton and is expected to reprise his role if the project comes to fruition.

According to entertainment website TheWrap.com, which claims their sources include "multiple individuals familiar with the project," "Beetlejuice 2" has moved beyond the initial brainstorming phase, but the sequel to the hit movie will most likely not be Burton's next project. Burton is currently in talks about "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children," a fantasy feature adapted by 20th Century Fox from a 2011 novel by Ransom Riggs. "Miss Peregrine's" has an expected 2015 release date.

"Beetlejuice 2" will be produced by The Geffen Company, which produced the original in 1988. The sequel's script is written by Seth Grahame-Smith who wrote the scripts for Burton's 2012 film adaptation of television series "Dark Shadows" of the same name and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter."

Burton received an Oscar nomination for his 3-D stop-motion film "Frankenweenie" in 2012.
"Beetlejuice" was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival in April of this year in honor of its 25th anniversary. In the film starring Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis and Winona Ryder, "bio-exorcist' "Beetlejuice" attempts to scare a family out of their haunted house.

Born Michael Douglas, Keaton adopted a stage name after actor Michael Douglas' fame was established. Keaton began his career in film playing comedic roles and starred in the leading role of the 1983 hit film "Mr Mom." Because of his history with comedic films, fans were upset when he was cast as Bruce Wayne in Tim Burton's 1989 film "Batman," but his sensational performance quieted fans and he reprised the role in the 1992 film "Batman Returns." Keaton starred in several films throughout the 1990's including hits "The Paper" in 1994 and "Multiplicity" in 1996.

His recent productions, such as "Herbie Fully Loaded" in 2005 have achieved mixed results. Keaton made his directorial debut at the Sundance Festival earlier this year with the dark emotional film "The Merry Gentlemen," in which he also starred as a suicidal assassin. In the Global 100 he said about his character who is stranded on an island with a woman, "What I love is that the most dangerous guy in the world is actually the best guy for her to be with, the safest and, in a weird way, the most noble and honorable.
