A Limerick comedy-rap duo, Mr Chrome and Blind Boy, aka The Rubberbandits, have become a YouTube sensation with 1,458,211 hits on their song “Horse Outside”.

The comedic duo are now favorites to take the coveted Irish Christmas Number 1 spot from “X Factor” winner, Matt Cardle.

Irish bookies, Paddy Powers, say The Rubberbandits are now 4/5 favorites having clocked up over a million views in just six days on YouTube and becoming the most downloaded tune in Ireland on iTunes over the weekend.

Since 2006 the winner of “X Factor” has always managed to scoop the top of the Irish charts for Christmas day. It is now hoped that the comedy pair, who are featured regularly on RTE, the national broadcaster’s, “Republic of Telly” show, might make it to the top of the charts.

On Tuesday the song received celebrity endorsement from Irish comedian Dara O’Briain. He tweeted “People of Ireland!” do you think the Brits are ready for “Horse Outside”?”. Later he tweeted “People of Britain. You have X-factor Matt; this will be Ireland's Xmas no. 1. And it is genius."

Also Nicky Byrne from Westlife tweeted “Folks.. here's irelands latest big thing !! I love it !! Gotta be xmas no 1 in ireland !! [sic]”

Even Fianna Fail, Limerick east, TD Willie O’Dea has voiced his support for The Rubberbandits. He said that not only should they make it to Number 1 but they should be bigger than U2.

The comedy bandits recently picked on the Limerick politician satirizing him in a song as Willie O’DJ (see right).

Mr O’Dea told the Limerick Post “You should never lose the ability to laugh at yourself…These guys are going to be bigger than U2.

"I'd love to see them get the Christmas No 1.

"We'll give them any support we can to get them there".

He continued “I'm absolutely thrilled as this has a lot of resonance with young people.

"It has all happened so quickly it's absolutely wonderful and a huge boost to Limerick".

Fans of the song, “Horse Outside”, are being urged to wait to buy the tune between December 17 and 23. This will maximize its chances of hitting number one. The single will be available in stores on Thursday.

(Be advised: Their songs contain very strong language from the beginning)
