It is believed that ‘The Great Gatsby’ actress Carey Mulligan was offered the role of Hillary Clinton in the upcoming biopic of the former first lady, New York senator and secretary of state.

The actress met up with director James Ponsoldt (‘The Spectacular Now’) just last week but, although she is said to have been offered the role, sources say that the actress was not ready to commit to the role.

The story of ‘Rodham’ will center on Clinton as a young lawyer on the committee involved in President Richard Nixon's impeachment, who juggles a diverging career path with her unresolved feelings for future President Bill Clinton, writes the Hollywood Reporter.

Ponsoldt is currently working on a director’s draft of ‘Rodham’ with Young II Kim and, along with producers Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen and Richard Arlook, will soon resume his search for an actress to play the role.

Other actresses who are rumored to be considered for the role are Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone.
