Actress Amy Adams has joined the cast of the forthcoming Paul Thomas Anderson's Scientology movie, a film based around the life of founder L. Ron Hubbard.

Deadline reports that Amy Adams has officially been confirmed to star in the film as the wife of a charismatic Navy Veteran, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, who creates a religion for lost souls just after the end of World War II. When“The Master” returns from witnessing the horrors of the war, and in an attempt to find himself, he forms a belief system that catches on in the 1950s.

Reports by tabloid Life & Style have suggested that influential Scientologists in Hollywood, in the likes of Tom Cruise, have been attempting to block production on the film, fearing that it could reveal too much about the inner workings of the faith. Tom Cruise’s representatives have denied the claim stating it to be “untrue.”

The religious film will start production later on this month and Adams will star in the Scientology flick before working in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot "Man of Steel," as Lois Lane.  Adams is coming off her Oscar-nominated turn in “The Fighter” and will next be seen in the Walter Salles-directed "On The Road," which is being shopped for domestic distribution, and Disney's "Muppets."

“The Master” is set out for a late 2012 release and will be staring Joaquin Phoenix, playing the role of Hoffman's right-hand man, who becomes disillusioned with the faith.
