The irreverent musical comedy, “The Book of Mormon” was named best musical at the 2011 American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards, among the nine awards bestowed on the show last night. Also Irish American Frances McDormand walked away with the award for best actress for her role in “Good People”.

Irish Americans stole the show last night in the massively successful award show hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.

“The Book of Mormon’s” accolades included two Tonys each for Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Robert Lopez for the book and for the music and lyrics. Parker and Casey Nicholaw won for direction of a musical while orchestration, lighting design, sound design of a musical and scenic design also won the show gongs.

Frances McDormand also received an award for her role as leading actress in the play for "Good People." David Lindsay-Abaire's drama tells the tale of a woman's struggle to escape her dead-end life in South Boston.

The most remarkable winner of the night however was “War Horse”. The show, based on the book by Michael Morpurgo, tells the tale of a boy, named Albert, and his beloved horse, Joey. This ground breaking puppet show won Best Play.
