Stephen Fry is currently learning Gaelic for a special role in TG4's Irish-language soap opera “Ros na Rún”.

The station has confirmed that the British actor will shoot his scenes in the Galway based set in the coming weeks.

The 53-year-old actor is currently working on a new BBC series which explores minority languages. He was invited to appear on the popular Irish soap during a scheduled trip to Connemara, in Co.Galway. The award winning actor has an avid interest in Irish literature.

“There is huge excitement here on the “Ros na Rún” set regarding Stephen Fry's cameo appearance for the show,” said Hugh Farley, series producer of the soap opera.

"Our team of scriptwriters are currently writing Stephen a cúpla focal for his special role and we plan to film a highly entertaining scene with Stephen and some of “Ros na Rún's” best loved characters," he added.

The popular Irish soap, which is in its 15th year, celebrated its 1000th episode last New Year's Eve. It is broadcast by the Irish language TV channel TG4 every Tuesday and Thursday evening. The show is also broadcast on WYBE public television in Philadelphia.

Filming for Fry’s cameo is due to take place in the first week of December.
