Russell Crowe was recently photographed on the ‘Man of Steel’ set in his character’s new and updated costume. In the film, Crowe is playing the character of Jor-El, Superman’s biological father.

Crowe’s costume features robe-like garments in rather drab colors and what appears to be a cape down his back. EOnline points out how the updated costume is a “far cry” from that of Marlon Brando’s in the 1978 version of the film. In it, Brando was sporting an “ultra-white” ensemble for his depiction of Jor-El.

The earthy and metallic color scheme does appear to work in conjunction with that of Superman’s new costume, EOnline draws attention to. Henry Cavill (the new Superman) and his new suit have also come under scrutiny for perhaps stepping too far away from the original depictions of Superman.

The new installment of Superman‘Man of Steel’ is set to hit theaters in June of 2013. Until then, the public will just have to wait for more sneak peeks of  the design of the new costumes.
