On Saturday talk radio star Rush Limbaugh paid Elton John $1 million dollars to perform at his fourth wedding. It was an unlikely choice for the portly right wing commentator who has previously denied the severity of AIDS in Africa, or that AIDS affects the heterosexual community in the U.S.

It was also an an unlikely gig for the British singer, a leading AIDS activist and outspoken campaigner against homophobia.

Limbaugh, 59, married a woman almost half his age Kathryn Rogers, 33, at a ceremony in Florida's Palm Beach. The guests were a register of right wing luminaries including Republican strategist Karl Rove, former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Fox News talk-show host Sean Hannity.

Sir Elton serenaded 400 guests into the wee hours, with security on hand. Proceeds from John's wedding concerts usually go to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and it is anticipated that his takings from this concert will do likewise.

At the end of the day Limbaugh will be donating a seven figure sum to the very groups he has belittled and scorned throughout his career. That prospect must have been what attracted Sir Elton in the first place.
