Robert Downey Jr’s latest film, the hotly anticipated ‘The Avengers,’ held its red-carpet world premiere last night in Hollywood. The flock of A-List stars who lend their talents to the latest Marvel Comics production were out in force and excited about the big reveal.

While long-form reviews of the new film are being embargoed until May 2nd, just two days before the official wide-release of the film, moviegoers who attended the screening last night were permitted to live tweet their thoughts during the showing.

And tweet they did! Most of the tweets glowed with approval and found the film to be entertaining, funny and definitely worth the hype. ScreenRant points out that initial tweet-reviews of other films tend to be in line with the final critics response.

The stars of the film, including Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, were out in force and in good spirits on the red carpet in Hollywood for the premiere.

Said star Robert Downey Jr to The Chicago Tribune, “I love enthusiasm ... And I like it when people make good on an ambitious promise, which is what Marvel did five years ago when they said, by 2012, we'll have an 'Avengers' movie put together.”

And when the star was asked how it felt to be a part of arguably the biggest superhero film ever? "Feels just about right,” he said.

‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ is directed by Joss Whedon and features stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L. Jackson. The film hits theaters in 2D, 3D and IMAX on May 4.
