Irish actor Pierce Brosnan caused a media storm at the White House Tuesday as he took in a tour while meeting with staff to discuss the preservation of whales.

The Navan man, famous for playing 007 James Bond and more recently for his singing role in "Mamma Mia!" was the center of media attention as he took a look around the East Wing of the White House.

Michael Strautmanis made sure he got to shakes hand with Brosnan.

"I wanted to be able to say this in public," said the chief of Staff to the Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Relations and Public Liaison, "It's good to see you again."

But Brosnan wasn’t just there to meet and greet. For the past 16 years he has campaigned for whale preservation and he made sure to tell all and sundry that it is an issue that has not gone away.

“The administration and the president is very sensitive and forward thinking to the cause,” said Brosnan, who did not meet the President. “Most people think they’ve been saved but they haven’t. The slaughter still goes on.”

The 56-year-old urged the government to start a dialogue with Norway, Japan and Iceland, three countries that still carry out whaling today.

On a lighter note, Brosnan said he was delighted to get the chance to look around the President’s home 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

"I've always viewed it from afar so to be in the hallowed halls was ... truly an honor,” said the actor, who is currently filming "Percy Jackson" with Uma Thurman and Sean Bean.
