During the 2006 filming of the low budget Irish movie “Once,” Irglova and co-star Glen Hansard began dating. The award-winning movie, directed by John Carney, tells the modern day love story of a Dublin busker, played by Hansard and an immigrant, played by Irglova.

After the film enjoyed huge success, the couple then went onto form The Swell Season. In 2009, however, they announced their romantic relationship was over.

Speaking about the break up, Hansard later said in an interview: "We broke up because neither of us were really enjoying it."

"What happened to us, is we were pals first and foremost. Then we became lovers and that period of our life was amazing, but we graduated to being pals again."
