One Direction star Niall Horan asked his fans to support Irish band Kodaline to reach number one. Kodaline came in number three in the UK charts.
The Dublin group released their debut album ‘In A Perfect World’ on Monday, June 17, 2013. They had hoped to top the UK charts when they were revealed on June 23, 2013. Last Wednesday, June 19 it was revealed that they were holding a top spot in the midweek chart.
Their album entered the chart in the number three place. The Official Charts Company tweeted to them, “Congrats to @Kodaline- #InAPerfectWorld enters the UK Official Albums Chart at #Number3.”
Before the chart placings were revealed, Horan tweeted to his fans, “Uk! @Kodaline need your help t get t #1 this week with there album! Go get it! [sic]” Kodaline tweeted to Horan, “thanks a million man :)” and Horan tweeted back, “@Kodaline it’s an unbelievable album! Class act you lads are! #doinitfortheirish”
Kodaline’s singles “Love Like This” and “High Hopes” have both placed within the top 25 of the UK charts.
Kodaline thanked their fans tweeting, “Thanks so much to everyone who bought #inaperfectworld We made it to no.3 in the UK Charts!!!”
Kodaline were originally known as 21 Demands and they made it to the final of the RTE show “You’re A Star” in 2007. They did not win the overall competition, but they became the first act to reach a Number One in Irish chart history on downloads alone.
Kodaline will be performing at several festivals this summer including Tennent’s Vital, Hard Rock Calling and Glastonbury.
