Fresh off the heels of their 2012 Bessie Award Nomination, Darrah Carr Dance and celebrated guest choreographer Seán Curran return to the Irish Arts Center to premiere new work in the company's signature style of ModERIN: a unique blend of traditional Irish step and contemporary modern dance.

Performances run from Friday, November 16 - Saturday, November 17 at 8pm, with matinees on Saturday, November 17 at 11am (a specially priced Family Show) and Sunday, November 18 at 3pm.

Set to the hauntingly beautiful music of renowned Irish traditional musician Seamus Eagan, Curran’s highly anticipated work, Sé Caoineadh, explores the emotion of lament and reveals the lyrical depths of Darrah Carr Dance's cast of champion Irish step dancers to express sadness, longing, and regret.

Curran and Carr first worked together a decade ago when Carr assisted Curran on the choreography for the Tony Award winning Broadway production of “James Joyce’s’ The Dead.”
In 2009, in honor of Darrah Carr Dance’s 10th Anniversary Season, Curran choreographed “On the Six” for the company - a whimsical fusion of swing dance rhythms and Irish dance steps.

Meanwhile, last year's premiere of "Dingle Diwali," a virtuosic display of powerful percussion set to the rhythmically complex vocalizations of British-Indian singer Sheila Chandra, was nominated for a 2012 New York Dance and Performance Award, or a Bessie Award.  This season marks Curran’s third collaboration with Darrah Carr Dance.

Additional highlights of the season include dazzling displays of lightning fast Irish dancing featuring live musical accompaniment by Liz Hanley, Niall O'Leary, and Christel Rice; a specially priced Family show on Saturday morning; a talkback with Darrah Carr and Seán Curran following Saturday night’s performance; and a pre-show conversation with Darrah Carr Dance starting at 2:30pm on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Times has described Carr as “a smiling, exuberant performer with an open upper body and fast-flying feet straight out of Irish step dancing.”

“Her immensely likable and skillful dancers move with a space gobbling buoyancy and openness that looks as if they might take flight.”

Tickets are $25 General; $15 for the Family Show; and $20 for IAC members. To purchase, call 866-811-4111 or visit www.irishartscenter.org.
