Over 40 Irish artists from Ireland and America will feature in the Irish Arts Center’s 2012 Spring season, which officially opens next Thursday January 26th.

From its home on West 51st street in Manhattan, season highlights will include the U.S. theater premiere of I Heart Alice Heart I, fresh from a run at the Abbey, Ireland’s National Theatre; a screening of the New York Times Critics’ Pick film One Hundred Mornings; exceptional music curated by Grammy Award-winner  Susan McKeown; a live theatrical concert by Choice Music winner Julie Feeney and directed by PS122 artistic director Vallejo Gantner; a revival of the acclaimed Masters of Tradition concert featuring fiddler Martin Hayes and a unique one-night-only concert, Celtic Appalachia, tracing the wondrous links between old time American country and bluegrass music and Irish traditional music, curated by Mick Maloney.

The Irish Arts Center is also delighted to present two city-wide free events: the 2nd annual Irish Book Day, where thousands of books will be distributed free of charge to New York City commuters at locations throughout the five boroughs and the Eleventh annual NYC Dance Festival showcasing Irish dancers along the Hudson River.

With a full-scale visual art exhibition, monthly comedy sessions, literary salons, a children’s program, and a full roster of music, dance and Irish language classes, the 2012 Spring Season will bring all flavors of Irish arts to New York audiences and reflect the exciting and changing landscape of Irish arts and culture here in the U.S. and across the Atlantic.
