Irish-German actor, Michael Fassbender, is set to follow in the footsteps of fellow “X-Men” cast members James McAvoy, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen by starring in an adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth."
The movie will be co-produced by See Saw Films, the same production company that created Steve McQueen’s “Shame” and Oscar winning film, “The King’s Speech”, and Film4. “Snowtown” director, Justin Kurzel will begin directing later in 2013, basing the dark tragedy on a script from Todd Louiso and Jacob Koskoff, the Irish Examiner writes.
EmpireOnline.com has reported that Kurzel’s adaptation of “Macbeth” will be set in the 11th century and will feature Shakespeare’s original language with scenes of bloody violence. Fassbender will play the ruthless Scottish lord who overthrows his king with the help of his wife and three witches. It is thought that producers are searching for their Lady Macbeth among the Hollywood ranks.
Fassbender has recently finished filming another Film4 production, “Frank” as well as Terence Malik's untitled project which co-stars Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale. He is currently reprising his role as the young Magneto in the next installment of the “X-Men” films: “X-Men: Days of Future Past”, and will be seen in upcoming films, “Twelve Years A Slave” and “The Counselor”.
