Irish heartthrob Michael Fassbender has signed as the romantic lead in an upcoming film adaptation of Jane Eyre.

The Kerry man will play Mr. Rochester alongside Mia Wasikowska, who can be currently seen on the big screen in “Alice in Wonderland,” in the title role.

Fassbender first shot to international fame for his role in the 2008 movie “Hunger” when he delivered as tour de force performance as hunger striker Bobby Sands.

Since then he has made a huge impression on Hollywood, playing roles such as Lt. Archie Hicox in “Inglourious Basterds.”

Filming of Jane Eyre will begin this week in Britain with stars such as Dame Judi Dench and “Billy Elliot” Jamie Bell confirmed as c0-stars.

Fassbender’s busy schedule did allow him to return to Killarney where he acted as grand marshal in the town’s parade.

Fassbender was born in Germany but grew up in the picturesque County Kerry tow, where his parents still run a guesthouse.

This Spring Fassbender will star in as Roman soldier Quintas Dias in the Neil Marshall-directed action epic “Centurion.”
