Michael Buble

Canadian crooner Michael Buble is one of the world’s best-selling and most popular artists, and though he’s been all over the place exporting his smooth pop and easy listening, Ireland remains a high point.

Preparing to release a new CD of Christmas music, Buble is on the promotional trail and chatted with The Irish Times about the two sell-out shows he played to christen the new outdoor Aviva Stadium in Dublin last fall.

Fans went bananas at the shows, and Buble calls the Irish gigs “the greatest two nights of my life. That was unbelievable. We had so much fun in Dublin. We went out on the street and it was a mob.

“I’d never felt so famous before in my life. It was thrilling. We jumped into a cab and took off and we thought it was just the coolest day of our lives. It was just awesome.”

Dishing out the love for Ireland isn’t new for Buble. He’s performed there on many occasions and has gone on the record time and again about the amazing reception he always receives on Irish soil.

Not that he remembers everything that happened after the Aviva shows, though.  Buble enjoyed his celebratory party a little too much, he says, with Guinness having a particularly nasty effect on his head.

“Of course I did,” he told the Times when asked if he sampled the black stuff.

“Unfortunately for me, after we did the second show I got absolutely s***-faced.”

The Times noted that Buble’s CD Crazy Love actually outsold local powerhouses U2 for most sales in a week in Ireland. No doubt his new offering will provide equally good Irish tidings for his ego . . . and his wallet.
