Everest Entertainment has confirmed that Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon are set to star in “Mud,” a new film by Jeff Nichols.

The always loveable McConaughey and Witherspoon will be co-starring alongside Tye Sheridan, a 14-year-old named Ellis who helps Mud, a charming fugitive, reunite with his soul mate played by the “Legally Blonde” actress.

"Jeff wrote a visceral story full of compassion, innocence and memorable journeys," said FilmNation’s Aaron Ryder.

The film will focus on the bond between the boy and the fugitive as they escape the law and bounty hunters.

"Nichols has written a beautiful story with rich characters learning valuable lessons through life-changing circumstances. With Jeff’s vision, this will be a work of art," says Lisa Maria Falcone of Everest Entertainment, who is producing the film with Sarah Green and Aaron Ryder.

"It's an incredible script which Jeff, along with Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon and Tye Sheridan, will bring to life. We've been privileged to work with incredible filmmakers like Danny Boyle, Tom McCarthy and Rodrigo Garcia and are thankful to add Jeff Nichols to that list," Falcone adds.

Both actors have had a longevity and success in their careers that is now almost rare in Hollywood and are known for captivating audiences with their ever so natural portrayal of characters. The synopsis might lack a bit of spark but it is up to the direction and the portrayal of the actors to see “Mud” be brought to life and make it a must-see film.

Production on the film has not yet started.
