It would be hard to say that 2009 was a good year for Lindsay Lohan. Her mother Dina revealed private information about her tendency to cut herself, while her dad Michael released a tape of her calls to home for help. Her clothes designs for haute couture fashion house Ungaro were deemed a mess by Emanuel Ungaro himself, according to the Huffington Post.

And her trip to India, where she shot a documentary for the BBC, became controversial when she tweeted that she had saved 40 children – only for it to emerge that she wasn’t even in India at the time.

All that's before you even get to her traumatic break-up with girlfriend Samantha Ronson earlier in the year.

Now, though, is the time for New Year’s resolutions. Lohan has tweeted hopefully of her desires for 2010.

On December 31 she twittered, “Wishing everyone a blessed new year in 2010! Everyone get ready for more (but positive-LOHAN MAYHEM!!!!!!!!) Thanks for all of your support!”

She also wished her twitter fans “love, peace, and prosperity to all.”

To accompany the positive sentiments, she posted two photos from her New Year's holiday: a tasteful one in black and white, showing Lohan in a trilby hat sitting charmingly in an airplane; and another in full color with Lohan in a tiny flame-colored bikini, wearing sunglasses and with cigarette in hand, leaning raunchily against the rails of a boat.

Lohan spent the New Year in the idyllic, sunny setting of St. Barths, if we are to believe her tweets.

This seems to have put her in an upbeat frame of mind. Her first tweets of 2010 suggest a new seriousness, and perhaps an attempt to wrestle with her demons and deal with the difficult people that surround her.

She recently tweeted: “To answer everybody's question...My new years resolution is to stop letting the lucky few that have my heart, try2constantly tear me down.”

She added, “2010 is about moving forward, not backwards. Leaving the bad (people, habbits, and negative energy behind) time to make changes-right!?!? :).”

Happy New Year to you, Lindsay. We hope you succeed in making those changes.
