Lindsay Lohan looks set to nab the role of renowned mobster John Gotti's daughter in the upcoming film starring John Travolta.

The latest reports suggest that Victoria Gotti “handpicked’ Lohan to play the role, insisting that producers hire the troubled star over the likes of Sienna Miller and Blake Lively.

Gotti  (48) is a close family friend of the Lohan’s according to TMZ and frequently visits their Long Island home.

TMZ are reporting hat Gotti demanded the “Mean Girls” star be cast in the role, and the film makers “love the idea”.

Speaking to the Associated Press she said: "I thought it was a great choice, I think she is a great actress and she would have my support”.

John Travolta supposedly dined with family members of the notorious crime family and  sought their approval to play the role of the late crime boss John Gotti.

The biopic will be named “Gotti: Three Generations” and is not set to be released until 2013.

It is expected that Lohan will fly into New York next week to sign her deal for the film, which will chart the tale of three generations for the Gambino crime family, which John Gotti headed.

James Franco has also been rumored to be in the running to play John Gotti junior.
