Early figures show that “The Chronicle of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” has topped U.S. and Canada box office charts. The movie took in $24.5 million.

So far the movie has taken in $105.5 million around the world, according to Century Fox. The head of distribution said “We had a huge task ahead of us to resurrect this franchise…We really had our work cut out for us," continued Chris Aronson of Fox. Century Fox took over on Narnia after Disney dropped it.

Aronson said that the aim was to “get movie-goers back to that feeling of affection they had for the first movie,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"I think they all had such a bad taste in their mouth from the last one," said Aronson.

Belfast actor, Liam Neeson, plays the ruler of Narnia, the lion Aslan. Speaking at premiere of the movie he said “It's pretty special, this is the third one we have done of Narnia. It's very special in my heart.”

Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie’s “The Tourist” came in second place with $17 million. Sony described it as a “respectable opening” for a film with “two of the biggest stars in the world”.

Disney’s 3D animation, “Tangled”, came in third place with $14.6 million while “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1” came in fourth place with “Unstoppable” in at number five.
