President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle hosted the Kennedy Center Honors in DC on Sunday night.

Oprah Winfrey and Sir Paul McCarthy were among those honored. President Obama said that the five men and women who were chosen to recieve the 2010 Kennedy Center Honors had "given the nation the extraordinary gift of the arts." He said that each honoree had a "staggering amount of talent".

As well as Winfrey and McCarthy, dance-choreographer Bill T. Jones, country singer Merle Haggard and Broadway composer Jerry Herman were also honored.

Dressed in a beaded scarley gown and wearing silver earrings, the first lady looked stunning at the event. A host of celebrities including Diana Ross, Gwen Stefani, Barbara Walters, Alec Baldwin and Steve Tylter attended the ceremony.
