British bombshell Kate Beckinsale turned a lot of heads in Hollywood recently when she was spotted shopping in L.A. with flowing blonde tresses, leading many to question why she would change her trademark brunette locks. It seems the answer may lie in a movie role that Ms Beckinsale was recently offered.

Digitalspy is reporting that Kate was offered a role opposite Dublin born actor Colin Farrell in the planned remake of science fiction blockbuster Total Recall.

Beckinsale, who is currently shooting the fourth installment of the Underworld film series, is likely to reprise the role made famous by Sharon Stone in the 1990 original, with Farrell set to take over for Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was reported that Beckinsale was tipped the favorite over other Hollywood contenders like Bond-girl Eva Green, and another famous Kate — Kate Bosworth.

Beckinsale has been keeping a low profile over the past couple of years, filming only one or two films annually since her break-out roles in Serendipity and Pearl Harbor in 2001.

Although the new Total Recall film will be released over a decade after the original, Beckinsale will have no trouble playing Lori as she is quite fond of science fiction; a genre that introduced her to her husband Len Wiseman on the set of the first Underworld movie.

Perhaps she will give Mr. Farrell a few tips in the category, though he proved his own acting ability in the popular and critically acclaimed 2003 science fiction thriller Minority Report. Filming on Total Recall is slated to start later this year and will likely prove to be another hit for both Farrell and Beckinsale.
