Irish American comedian Jimmy Fallon has already replaced Conan O'Brien on his old TV time slot, and now he is stealing another of his old gigs.

NBC announced today that Fallon has been chosen to host this years Emmy Awards ceremony in New York.

O'Brien hosted the Emmy's in 2002 and again in 2006.

Because NBC telecast the show, a prominent NbC star as presenter was a must.

There were rumors that "Parks & Recreation" actress Amy Poehler might be the new face of the Emmys, but when the network announced the show would be aired in August that took Poehler right out of the running.

She is due her baby in August. If it had been September - which was the original plan - she might have been a strong contender.

Rumors also circulated that both Andy Samberg (who successfully hosted the "MTV Movie Awards" last year) and Justin Timberlake (who has appeared on "Saturday Night Live" and won an Emmy for it) were potential hosts.

Fallon is no stranger to the Emmys.

Last year his show "The Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Digital Experience" won an Emmy for Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media - Nonfiction category.

Fallon joked in a statement that hosting the Emmys "has been a dream of mine ever since they told me I was doing it."

The "62nd Primetime Emmy Awards" will air live coast to coast on NBC on August 29.

Nominations for the awards, presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, will be announced July 8.
