Jimi Hendrix, the great American psychedelic guitarist who died in 1970, is being brought to life again on the streets of Dublin by Andre 3000, the rapper from Outkast who was tabbed to star in the new biopic All Is By My Side.

The film will be set in London from 1966-’67, when Hendrix recorded his debut album Are You Experienced.  Dublin will act as a stand-in for the British capital, where Hendrix died at the age of 27.

The cast, which also includes Hayley Atwell and Imogen Poots, has been in Dublin for several days shooting the flick, which is due for release next year.

The project, which does not have the support of the Hendrix estate, “captures the energy, the charisma, [and] the mind-boggling talent of a legend whose musical influence still resonates around the world today,” according to an official announcement by producers.

Interesting casting announcement – Danny McColgan, son of Riverdance creators Moya Doherty and John McColgan, was just named as the actor who will play Eric Clapton, who was a close friend of Hendrix.
