Next April will see the release of 'Titanic 3D' in movie theaters to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the great ship’s sinking.

James Cameron became a champion of 3D movies with Sam Worthington’s 'Avatar' movie in 2009 and now the master of underwater imagery is re-mastering his Oscar Winning 'Titanic' for the 3D screens.

On his Facebook page Cameron announced he was “excited to bring back Titanic back to the big screen again."

The 1997 movie broke records with a $200 million budget. The romantic tale, starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, frames the tragic crash and sinking of the ship, which claimed the lives of 1,517 people.

Cameron’s movie ‘Titanic’ won 11 Oscars in all, in 1998.

Those who missed out on the movie the first-time round can expect to see a 22-year-old Leonardo DiCaprio wearing a tux and waiting for a 21-year-old Kate Winslet at the top of the famous dining room stairs of the Titanic.

The movie will be released on April 6, 2012, just nine days before the centenary of the Titanic.
