Of course there are the internationally known and beloved bands like U2, Thin Lizzy, The Corrs and The Frames but every year new Irish bands are popping up and making a major impression on the music industry.
 
We decided to put together a list, and some videos from, the ten band from Ireland that have really caught our eyes over the last five years.
 
1. The Script
 
This soft rock band from Dublin released their debut, self-entitled album in 2008 and recently released their second album. Their first single “Breakeven” went Platinum having sold over one million copies in the U.S. It peaked at number 12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
 
So far the band has won various awards including World Music Awards for 'Best Selling Irish Act' of 2008 and the Best Live Performance at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards.
 
2. The Coronas
 
The Coronas’ released their first record five years ago and have achieved success at home and overseas in the U.S, U.K and Asia with their first two albums “Heroes or Ghosts” (2007) and “Tony Was An Ex-Con” (2009). The Meteor Award-winning four piece band from Dublin achieved chart success with both albums.
 
3. Bell X 1
 
The band, from Kildare, have release four critically acclaimed albums in Ireland. The band was formed in 1999, a follow on from the Damien Rice fronted band, Juniper. They released their first album “Neither Am I” in 2000. Since then they have released “Music in Mouth”, “Flock”, “Tour De Flock”.
 
The band also had success in the U.S with live performances on the “Late Show with David Letterman” (twice), “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” and “Late Night with Conan O'Brien”
 
“Blue Lights on the Runway” was their first studio album without Brian Crosby. According to Billboard, apart from U2 they receive the most air play in Ireland.
 
4. Delorentos

 
Delorentos formed in 2005 in Dublin. Their debut album “Love with Detail” was critically acclaimed in Ireland and nominated for the Choice Music Prize at the Meteor Awards along with the Best New Irish Band.

Their second album “You Can Make Sound was released” on in October 2009 which led to another two Meteor nominations for the band in 2010. The band have toured the likes of Bell X1 and The Futureheads and has expand its fan base at home and throughout Europe.
 
5. Republic Of Loose
 
The Republic of Loose is one of the most original bands on the Irish music scene. For example their newest record “Bounce at the Devil” saw them relocated to Baltimore to immerse themselves in black American music and culture.
 
Their style is self-described as “the stuff your dad likes” their debut album was called “This is the Tomb of the Juice” and singles received considerable air time. In 2006 their released their second album “Aaagh!” and achieved platinum sales. “Vol IV: Johnny Pyro and the Dance of Evil” their third album, was released in 2008.
 
6. Villagers
 
The Villagers have performed at numerous festivals and toured with Tracy Chapman, Bell X1 and Tindersticks. Their debut album “Becoming a Jackal” released in 2010 was shortlisted for the highly coveted Mercury Prize.
 
7. Ham Sandwich
 
Blessed with a creative yet polished sound the band from Meath has released five singles and two albums “Carry the Meek” and “White Fox”. They were pegged in 2007 by the Sunday Times as “Ones to Watch” and have enjoyed a massive following throughout Ireland and have been constantly critically acclaimed.
 
8. Director
 
Director’s 2007 album “We Thrive On Big Cities” brought the band widespread success in Ireland, debuting at number two in the album charts for four weeks. Its follow up “I’ll Wait For Sound” saw them showcase a harder, rawer sound.
 
The band from Malahide, Dublin have toured solo and also with Hard-Fi, Goo Goo Dolls, The Fratellis and Razorlight.
 
9. RoySeven

 
RoySeven’s debut album “The Art of Insincerity” was released in 2006. Following this  the band received the Hope Away at the Meteor Awards.  The band has had considerable success in Germany and toured and played festivals throughout Ireland. They have been dubbed and exciting new presence in the Irish music scene.
 
10. Fight Like Apes
 
The band got a name for themselves because of their elongated record titles, inspired by B-movies. For example their two EPs were “How Am I Supposed to Kill You If You Have All the Guns?” and “David Carradine is a Bounty Hunter Whos Robotic Arm Hates Your Crotch”. They then released two albums “Fight Like Apes and the Mystery of the Golden Medallion” and “The Body of Christ and the Legs of Tina Turner”.
 
They have been named the fourth best act of their generation by The Irish Times. The band have toured with The Von Bondies, The Ting Tings, The Prodigy and Kasabian. The band have been nominated for five Meteor Music Awards and a Choice Music Prize.
