Mary Kate Sheehan, an Irish step dancer, wowed FOX’s “So YouThink You can Dance” judges during the airing of the second episode of the season. The episode included the auditions held in Salt Lake City and New York City and talented dancers like Sheehan, had to prove their talents in order to move onto the next round.
Mary Kate Sheehan is the first Irish dancer the show has seen. After a not too technical history lesson of the origins of the step dance, she told judges that she has won the last three regional championships and that she is “top five in the nation and top in the world,” as well.
Her choreography delighted viewers and judges alike. "The use of stage is beautiful," Nigel Lythgoe said as the young dancer effortlessly glided through the stage displaying her speedy footwork and toned legs.
Despite her ability to sweep herself across the stage without breaking a sweat, Mary Kate Sheehan was sent to Choreography after her distinctive dance audition to test whether or not she could handle other choreography besides Irish step dance.
After an hour in Choreography, Sheehan performed again and made it through to the Las Vegas round proving she is a talent to be reckoned with for this season’s competition.
“So You Think You Can Dance” will return Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET on FOX with the last show of first auditions before the Vegas shows.
