Irish composer Brian Byrne won big at the highly prestigious World Soundtrack Awards which were held on Saturday. His work on the film ‘Albert Nobbs’ has brought him great success, with these awards being the latest.

RTE reports that Byrne, a native of Navan, won two awards at the Ghent International Film Festival on Saturday night. The Irish composer won Discovery of the Year for his score to ‘Albert Nobbs,’ recorded with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and Best Original Song for ‘Lay Your Head Down,’ lyrics by Glenn Close, performed by Sinéad O'Connor with the RTÉ CO.

For his Best Original Song award, Byrne beat out big names including Madonna, Florence + The Machine, and Oscar winner Bret McKenzie.

His two awards come after a spot on the Academy Awards’ long list for ‘Albert Nobbs,’ and a Golden Globe nomination.

‘Albert Nobbs,’ starring Glenn Close, tells the story of a woman passing as a man in early 20th century Dublin.

"I am incredibly proud of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and its enormous contribution to the ‘Albert Nobbs’ soundtrack," says Byrne. "I am so glad I got to do it with the home team. This orchestra's versatility is unmatched in Europe - let's hope there will be many more collaborations like this one."
