Irish actors Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson along with Dublin-based movie “Albert Nobbs” and HBO’s “Game of Thrones” have been nominated for Golden Globe Awards.

Fassbender is up for the Best Actor award for his role in Steven McQueen’s “Shame”. He’s up against George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt.

Gleeson is nominated for his role as “The Guard” in the Best Comedy or Musical slot.
Glenn Close’s movie “Albert Nobbs” has been nominated for the Best Original Song for “Lay Your Head Down”. The song was written by Glenn Close and Irish composer, Brian Byrne. “Lay Your Head” is sung by Sinead O’Connor.

Close is also nominated for the Best Actress Award while Jannet McAtteer is nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Award.
