Irish authors Colum McCann, Colm Toibin, William Trevor and Peter Murphy are on the long-list for the 2011 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.

162 authors are in the running for a €100,000 award next year.

The four Irish authors are joined by other fiction writers including Sebastian Faulks and Dan Brown.

The more than 150-name list is derived from nominations from libraries in 43 countries worldwide and is administered by Dublin's public libraries.

The prize will be handed out June 15, from names on the short list, to be announced on April 12.

McCann's book includes 'Let The Great World Spin', nominated by libraries in Ireland, Norway, Switzerland, Canada, Germany and the U.S.

'Love And Summer' by William Trevor was voted for by libraries in Ireland and the US and 'John The Revelator' by Peter Murphy was nominated by Limerick City Library.

'Brooklyn' by Colm Toibin was put forward by Belgium, England, Ireland, Switzerland, South Africa, New Zealand and the US.

McCann's novel received 14 nominations with Toibin receiving 13 nominations.

Both will be among the hot favourites.

Margaret Hayes, Dublin City Librarian, said: "In the year when Dublin was designated as a City of Literature by UNESCO, it is wonderful that four Irish authors have been nominated for the €100,000 award next year."
