He's been called, at various points, Gorgeous George and McDreamy, but until now few have called actor George Clooney Irish.

That's set to change when a feature-length documentary Clooney’s Irish roots receives its Irish premiere at the Waterford Film Festival next month, according to the Irish Film and Television Network.

Olympia Films has recently completed post-production on the bluntly named 'George Clooney's Irish Roots' which will be screened in Waterford on Friday November 9.

Written and directed by Gabriel Murray, the documentary was shot on-location in Kilkenny, Laois, Waterford as well as Kentucky in the United States.

According to IFTN the documnentary traces the emigration of Clooney’s Irish ancestor Nicholas Clooney from Kilkenny to Kentucky during the darkest year of the famine of 1847. Th filmmakers have also gone on an intensive search for his Irish links, as well as the discovery of Clooney’s ancestral home.

The film centers around Fiona Clooney who made contact with George’s father in 2008 when he came to Ireland in search of his Irish roots. It also includes interviews with Bono, George Clooney historians Professor Walter Walsh and Joseph Kennedy and Clooney’s long lost cousins.

The documentary will be distributed worldwide by LA-based Camelot Distribution, and features a soundtrack with contributions from The Corrigans, Abbeyfolk, Louise Florence, The Fenians and Rosemary Clooney.
