For the first time, Dublin has become the principal location for a major Bollywood film, which industry heads say is destined for commercial success.
The film, titled 'Ek tha Tiger,' will give Ireland a "major boost in the Indian market" the Irish Minister for Arts Jimmy Deenihan told the Irish Times.
Deenihanm who was speaking at the launch of the Third Indian Film Festival of Ireland added there was a "huge opportunity" for the Irish film industry in India.
The Irish made film 'Ek tha Tiger' will not be screened at this year's festival. It is not scheduled to be released until later this year, but the festival will show eleven other feature films and a documentary between June 8 and 11.
Interest in shooting a film in Ireland was stimulated by the new festival which commenced in 2010 festival co-ordinator Mary O’Sullivan told the Irish Times.
One of the aims starting out was to encourage Irish Indian co-production, and it has attracted high profile Indian film stars such as actor and singer Ila Ar, writer and director Vijay Singh and producer Leslee Udwin.
O'Sullivan explained that Ireland's scenery was "so beautiful" to the visiting film-makers that they become "interested in making films here."
The fledgling Indian film festival in Ireland signified the "much more modern relationship of industry, commerce and culture" between the two countries Indian ambassador to Ireland Debashish Chakravarti told the Irish Times.
The film festival will be held from June 8 - 11. For details, visit: Indianfilmfestivalofireland.ie.
