Daniel Day-Lewis to star in Sherlock Holmes 2?

Director Guy Ritchie's fun but forgettable 2009 blockbuster 'Sherlock Holmes' left something hanging - its over-the-top set-up for a sequel.

The evil professor Moriarty, who spoke in an unrecognizable English accent and was shown only when surrounded by darkness, just begged to be brought to life.

Rumors insisted that Brad Pitt was assured the role of Moriarty for the sequel because of his relationship with Guy Ritchie (they made 'Snatch' together and have remained buddies). But the latest gossip is that now Daniel Day-Lewis is in the running for the villain's role.

That makes 'Sherlock Holmes 2' about ten times more interesting as a project, since screen time shared between the Oscar winner and Robert Downey Jr. has the potential to make a fascinating film. Watch this space.
