Daniel Day Lewis has been cast as Professor Moriarty in Guy Richie’s “Sherlock Holmes” sequel.
According to the British, Sun newspaper, Richie’s budget didn’t quite stretch to Brad Pitt. However Daniel Day Lewis seems like the obvious choice to play the intense and malevolent Professor Moriarty, arch-nemesis of Sherlock Holmes.
Lewis will join Robert Downey Junior, who plays Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law, who plays Doctor Watson.
Rumors have been flying about who would be cast as Moriarty. Just some of the prime suspects were Daniel Day Lewis, of course, Javier Bardem, Gary Oldman, Sean Penn and Brad Pitt. Though Richie’s budget didn’t stretch far enough to snag Pitt it is though that he will make a cameo appearance in the movie.
Filming will start in October 2010.
In a recent interview Jude Law explained how excited he was to start work with Robert Downey Junior and Guy Richie again as they had so much fun with the first.
He said “I had so much fun making 'Sherlock Holmes' that the question of how much money it would make just wasn't one of my priorities. Of course I was really pleased it was such a success but mostly because that will give me the opportunity to work with Robert and Guy again.”
