Damian McGinty made his third appearance on FOX’s ‘Glee’ mash-up themed episode, ‘Mash Off.’  McGinty, the ‘Glee Project’ co-champion and Derry native, scored more air time than his quick appearance in last week’s episode, ‘The First Time.’

McGinty got to flex his vocal chords in last night’s episode, a far cry from his minuscule ensemble appearance last week. His part in the mash-up of Hall & Oates’ “You Make My Dreams” and “I Can’t Go For That” showed that McGinty’s character is becoming part of the gang at McKinley High School.

The episode turns later to a dodge-ball fight, featuring a lively mash-up of ‘One Way or Another’ and, fittingly, ‘Hit Me with Your Best Shot.’ Rory ends up on the losing side of the match, but even so, the girls all take turns throwing their remaining balls at him, causing his nose to bleed.

Now, after three of seven guaranteed appearances, Rory’s storyline is still feeling a little vague. With a dominant role in his initial debut, an ensemble spot last week, and a more levelled out spot last night, where can Rory go from here? Catriona Wightman, writing for Digital Spy, wrote in her weekly ‘Glee’ recap that “Glee still doesn't seem to really know what to do with Glee Project winner Damian McGinty (Rory).”

Writers on ‘Glee’, however, are still getting a kick out of McGinty’s distinctly Derry accent. During an insult match between Santana and Rory and Finn last night, Santana retorts “That's the lamest thing I didn't understand a word of." Santana also refers to Rory as a “potato head,” another check on the Irish-stereotyping list.

In an interview with WetPaint, McGinty shared that he’s currently filming both the Christmas and Sectionals episodes for ‘Glee,’ as well as working towards perhaps attaining a full-time role on the FOX hit.

Tune in in two weeks to find out what else is in store for Rory Flanagan on ‘Glee’!
