Susan Boyle’s Irish financial advisor, Ossie Kilkenny, is suing Associated Newspapers, in particular the Daily Mail, for alleged libel.
Kilkenny, 63, is suing the Daily Mail over a story headlined “Family at war over SuBo’s millions.”
The story appeared in the print edition and online in March.
The story claimed they had substantial grounds to suspect that due to Kilkenny’s “track record of dishonestly, lack of integrity, and history of dissolved companies,” he might dishonestly enrich himself by exploiting SuBo.
Dublin based Kilkenny is a retired accountant and on the board of directors of the Special Olympics.
The story was accompanied in the paper by a photo of him captioned “Battling: Ossie Kilkenny represents Susan, but some mistrust him.”
He is now suing for unlimited damages of more than $500,000 and is filing for an injunction banning the repetition of the allegations at the centre of his claim.
Kilkenny says the story has “seriously damaged” his reputation both professionally and personally and has left him embarrassed and distressed.
The story remained on the Daily Mail’s website until the day after his solicitors complained, he says.
He has instructed Nicholas Armstrong of Charles Russell to bring his claim against the publishers.
