The American talk show host has been able to experience London as a regular tourist after discovering that most Brits don't recognise him.

The 51-year-old television personality is in the UK capital to promote his talk show 'Conan' for the launch of the new digital channel, truTV

Talking to BBC Radio 2 today (04.08.14), Conan joked: "The other night I went to some posh restaurant. I come out and there's all this paparazzi and they start talking all these pictures of me and I pose and as I'm walking away one of them shouts, 'Who are you?' So I said I was a male model. He looked like he didn't believe me."

But the TV veteran - who has worked in TV since 1987, starting off on 'Saturday Night Live' - admits he has enjoyed his relative lack of fame in the UK.

When asked how he has been enjoying his anonymity, he explained: "It's horrible! No it's really not. It's nice. What's strange is you never know, especially in London the past couple of days. Sometimes someone will stare at me and I will think it's because they know it's me, Conan O'Brien. So I'll say, 'Well hello there, how are you?' And they won't know who I am they're just looking at my weird hair.

"And so there's a lot of American tourist here who know me and Canadians and an occasional Brit knows me. Australians know me for some reason ... I have to say it's nice to get a break and walk along the streets and people just stare at me for my weird hair."

he jokingly added: "The mind can't fathom what a massive star I am."
